igus Develops New Sensor to Monitor Tensile Forces in Robot Energy Chains |
|
|
Unplanned automation downtime is costly, especially in the automotive industry, and cologne-based manufacturer of high-performance polymers igus has introduced the new TR.P sensor to help prevent it. The smart system monitors tensile forces in triflex energy chain systems on industrial robots, detecting critical loads early and triggering actions—such as notifying operators or stopping the robot—to prevent damage and improve safety from the start-up phase. The sensor uses a load cell at the robot head to identify overstretching or improper movement patterns, helping avoid failures that can cost up to 600 euros per second in automotive production.
During commissioning, TR.P can reveal problematic cable or hose package movements before damage occurs. It complements igus’s TR.B break‑detection system, which senses changes in chain length if a link breaks and sends a digital signal directly to the PLC for fast intervention.
igus also supports users through its superwise service, which integrates i.Sense sensor data with predictive maintenance. This allows igus to monitor abnormal values, recommend maintenance actions, schedule inspections, and streamline replacement orders—reducing downtime risks and easing customer workloads without significant investment.

Porsche delivers 279,449 sports cars to customers in 2025, Taiwan expands segment share |
|
|
- The 911 sports car icon sets another delivery record
- Macan remains the strongest model line with 84,328 cars delivered
- Balanced sales structure despite economic and geopolitical challenges
- Porsche Taiwan delivered 4,680 vehicles in 2025
Porsche delivered 279,449 vehicles worldwide in 2025, a 10% decrease from the previous year, largely due to supply gaps in the 718 and Macan combustion models and softer demand for exclusive products in China. Despite this, the company emphasized its value‑oriented sales strategy and highlighted strong customer response to key launches such as the 911 Turbo S with T‑Hybrid technology and the Cayenne Electric.
Taiwan played a notable role in Porsche’s global performance, delivering 4,680 vehicles in 2025 and achieving a 15.4% segment share—up 1.7 percentage points year‑on‑year despite market headwinds. Strong growth in the Macan (+83%) and Panamera (+57%), along with the Cayenne’s continued strength, underscored resilient demand in the Taiwanese market. Porsche Taiwan CEO Christian Nater highlighted the brand’s stability, customer loyalty, and strong product portfolio as key drivers of this momentum.
Looking ahead to 2026, Porsche aims to align supply and demand under its “value over volume” strategy while preparing for the phase‑out of combustion‑engine 718 and Macan models. The company will continue investing in its three‑powertrain strategy and expand its customization offerings through Exclusive Manufaktur and the Sonderwunsch program to meet growing demand for individualized sports cars.

BMWE Provides Practical Guidance on EU Sanctions (German Newsletter) |
|
|
In light of the European Union’s comprehensive sanctions against Russia, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) has introduced a newsletter on sanctions enforcement. It is published at irregular intervals and is aimed at interested associations, companies, as well as public and other institutions.
The newsletter’s primary goal is to provide businesses with a concise, practical overview of the current status of sanctions legislation, implementation, and enforcement—both in Germany and at the EU level, as well as among G7 partners. The political and legal framework for sanctions is becoming increasingly complex. At the same time, the risk for companies of unintentionally becoming involved in sanction-violating circumvention activities or unauthorized procurement attempts is growing. In parallel, the requirements for robust sanctions and trade compliance are increasing, including for subsidiaries and branches located abroad. This poses significant challenges, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises, which often lack extensive compliance structures.
Registration is possible via email at sanktionsoutreach@bmwe.bund.de.

U.S.-Taiwan Agree to Landmark Semiconductor Trade & Investment Deal
Taiwan has reached a new tariff‑cutting trade agreement with the United States aimed at deepening cooperation in AI and semiconductor manufacturing, with Taiwanese companies pledging around US$250 billion in U.S. investments and an additional US$250 billion in credit guarantees to support further expansion of advanced semiconductor, energy, and artificial intelligence manufacturing and innovation capacity in the U.S.
Taiwanese officials described the deal as a “win‑win” that strengthens two‑way industrial ties while keeping most advanced chip production in Taiwan, though analysts note the agreement could heighten tensions with China as bilateral tech collaboration accelerates.

Taiwan Ends Record‑Long Stabilization Fund Intervention
Taiwan’s National Financial Stabilization Fund has ended its market intervention after 279 days—the longest since its creation—following consensus among committee members. The fund invested more than NT$12.25 billion from April to December 2025, stepping in after U.S. President Donald Trump announced “reciprocal tariffs” that triggered historic plunges in the Taiex, including a record 2,065‑point drop on April 7.
The committee said improving economic fundamentals, strong export performance, and upward‑revised GDP forecasts supported the decision, noting that the stock market has since reached new highs.

Merck Opens €500M AI Chip Materials Plant in Taiwan
Merck Electronics has begun qualification for its new €500 million materials plant in Kaohsiung, the final step before mass production starts in 2026. The facility produces thin films, formulation materials, and specialty gases used in high‑precision processes for advanced AI chips, enabling Merck to meet about 80% of local thin‑film demand and more than half of Taiwan’s overall materials needs.
Merck said its long‑running “local for local” strategy has strengthened supply‑chain resilience and deepened ties with Taiwanese customers, who remain leaders in cutting‑edge semiconductor technologies. The company expects Taiwan’s importance to continue growing as advanced chip architectures and AI‑driven demand accelerate.

ASE Unit Acquires Factory to Boost Advanced IC Assembly Capacity
Siliconware Precision Industries Co. (SPIL), a subsidiary of ASE Technology Holding Corp., has bought factory buildings and equipment in the Miaoli section of the Hsinchu Science Park for NT$2.8 billion. Industry sources expect the site to support expansion of advanced IC assembly amid growing AI‑related demand, especially for 3D chip‑on‑wafer‑on‑substrate (CoWoS) packaging.
SPIL’s purchase follows a string of capacity‑expansion efforts, including new factories in Changhua and Taichung and long‑term land rights in the Central Taiwan Science Park. These moves aim to secure additional capacity as ASE Technology benefits from robust AI semiconductor demand, contributing to its 2025 consolidated revenue of NT$645.39 billion, up 8.4 percent year‑on‑year.
