Christmas Greetings from Taipei!
Santa is back! He made another visit at our German Christmas Market, this time in New Taipei City, bringing gifts and spreading festive cheer. The market was a great success! Join us for the next stop in Taoyuan from December 13 to 14, to celebrate the Christmas spirit. A big thank you to our generous sponsors for making it all possible.
Looking past the holiday season, Taiwanese EdTech companies are invited to the Taiwan EdTech Goes to Germany online seminar on December 12 to learn about the German digital education market and discover opportunities for upcoming trade fairs and delegation visits. It’s the final opportunity to sign up!
Last week, I attended the Deutsche Philharmonie Merck concert in Taipei celebrating the 25th anniversary of the German Institute Taipei – a wonderful evening highlighting music, culture, and collaboration. Our whole office sends congratulations on this milestone!
In our Business Alliance News, Covestro Taiwan’s Pingtung site recently presented its low-carbon projects, including oil-to-gas conversion and waste heat recovery, at a national industrial innovation conference, highlighting efforts to make industrial production more sustainable.
Furthermore, igus is tackling sustainability in materials, developing PTFE-free, lubrication-free high-performance plastics, which it will showcase at the K plastics trade show in Düsseldorf.
In our GTAI News, Taiwan’s AI-driven economic growth continues to fuel industrial expansion and trade, with German companies playing a key role in high-tech sectors and bilateral cooperation.
As always, we finish the InfoBrief with the latest news on Taiwan’s economy and company updates.
We look forward to seeing everyone at the Taoyuan Christmas Market! |

Maintenance in Traffic Light Mode: igus Makes the Condition of Energy Chains Visible at a Glance
|
|
|
PFAS and PTFE (a subgroup of PFAS) have been present in many products worldwide for decades - whether pans, shoes or hoses. It is due to them that plain bearings, e.g., can operate in dry operation without lubrication. However, the organic fluorine compounds decompose very slowly and can be harmful to people and nature. The discussion about a possible ban is causing uncertainty in the industry. As a pioneer for lubrication-free high-performance plastics for motion, igus recognised this challenge at an early stage and has already developed its own PTFE-free materials. At the K plastics trade show in Düsseldorf from 8th to 15th October, the company will show that this change is not only possible, but can also be linked to technical improvements. Taiwan’s Economy Boosted by AI Growth |
|
|
Taiwan’s economy is strongly driven by artificial intelligence (AI). Demand for high-performance chips, servers, and related equipment is fueling industrial growth. Major government initiatives and growing research and development activities are reinforcing this trend by pushing private investment in new production capacity, data centers, and supporting infrastructure. Gross fixed national investment is expected to reach a growth rate of over 9 percent by 2025. Meanwhile, traditional sectors are experiencing slower momentum, and a more subdued outlook is anticipated for 2026.
Strong global demand for AI-related products has fueled a surge in exports, pushing Taiwan’s trade to record levels and increasing imports of equipment and materials. Real GDP growth is forecast at over 7.3 percent in 2025, though consumer spending remains subdued due to modest wage increases and cautious outlooks. Looking ahead, growth is expected to slow to between 2.5 and 4.5 percent in 2026. German companies remain key partners, supporting Taiwan in high-tech sectors and bilateral trade.

Taiwanese Guavas Debut in European Markets
Taiwanese guavas have officially entered Europe, with the first sales in the Netherlands following EU approval for imports earlier this year. Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che promoted the fruit in Amsterdam, highlighting the achievement after Taiwan met strict sanitary requirements. The launch is expected to be welcomed by Taiwanese living in Europe and marks a step toward broader European market access.
Huang also visited France to engage with wholesale distributors and promote other Taiwanese products, including dried fruits, specialty drinks, and processed foods. Taiwan’s representatives view the Netherlands as a key gateway for expanding Taiwanese fresh fruit exports across Europe.
