The program included company visits and designed to deepen their practical skills and broaden their global perspective. We were pleased to help arrange visits to the following German companies:
🔹 BASF SE 🔹 TRUMPF Werkzeugmaschinen SE + Co. KG 🔹 Bosch Sensortec GmbH 🔹 Bosch Rexroth AG 🔹 MAG IAS GmbH 🔹 Hiwin GmbH 🔹 Mercedes-Benz Factory Wörth 🔹 Infineon Technologies AG
We sincerely thank all participating companies for their warm hospitality and professional guidance, which allowed the students to experience firsthand Germany’s advanced technologies and industrial environment.
During the ceremony, students also gave group presentations to share their learnings and reflections from the trip. We hope this journey has provided lasting inspiration, helping them transform what they’ve learned into valuable assets for their future education and careers.

Taiwan Semiconductor Delegation in Saxony | Wrapping Up a Deep-Dive Exchange
|
|
|
As the visit comes to a close, the Taiwan semiconductor delegation’s exchange in Saxony reached its key phase. Through site visits, we gained first-hand insights into the industrial landscape of Dresden and Chemnitz.
An investment briefing by Saxony Trade & Invest Corp. and the City of Dresden covered topics from company setup and relocation to urban development, followed by a tour of local industrial parks.
At GlobalFoundries, the delegation explored process strategies and discussed future collaboration opportunities, especially in supply chain alignment and workforce development.
Special thanks to Dr. Christian Koitzsch, President of ESMC, for guiding us through the construction site and sharing future plans of the European semiconductor project .
We also visited key players in the local semiconductor supply chain, including SEMPA SYSTEMS, which specializes in high-purity chemical and gas supply systems, and Fäth GmbH, focused on chemical modules and process system integration—both showing strong potential for collaboration with Taiwanese partners .
Our final stop in Chemnitz included the Makers United networking event and a warm welcome from the Mayor. As the European Capital of Culture 2025, Chemnitz is actively bridging innovation, culture, and industry .
Big thanks to all our partners. This journey sparked new ideas, partnerships, and meaningful dialogue for future cooperation in Semiconductor Industry in Germany!

Trade Policy Uncertainty Clouds Taiwan’s 2025 Outlook |
|
|
Taiwan’s growth prospects for 2025 remain closely tied to global trade dynamics, particularly US tariff policies. Although the island is benefiting from strong demand for AI and semiconductor technologies, economic forecasts are highly uncertain due to geopolitical factors.
In 2024, foreign R&D investment in Taiwan reached a record US$805 million, with German firms such as Infineon, Zeiss and SAP joining major US tech companies in setting up local innovation hubs. These investments strengthen Taiwan’s position as a centre for high-tech manufacturing and development.
However, rising concerns about potential 'reciprocal tariffs' from the US and political gridlock at home have dampened consumption and investor sentiment. Despite a strong first quarter, forecasts for Taiwan’s GDP growth in 2025 range from just 0.2% to 3.6%. Imports from Germany fell by 8% in Q1, while exports to Germany increased by 7.7%.

Taiwan’s Exports to U.S. Surpass Those to China
Taiwan’s exports reached a record US$51.74 billion in May, with the United States becoming Taiwan’s top export destination for the first time in years. Exports to the U.S. accounted for 30% of the total, surpassing China and Hong Kong’s combined share of 27.2%.
The shift was driven primarily by surging demand for AI-related products, particularly in the information and communication technology sector. Economists welcomed the move toward a high-income market but also cautioned against overdependence on a single country — especially amid uncertainty surrounding the U.S. administration’s trade policies.
While closer trade ties with the U.S. could benefit industrial development and wage growth, scholars emphasized the need for further export market diversification to reduce vulnerability in the long term.

Taiwan’s Economic Indicator Turns Green — But Consumer Demand Weakens
For the first time in 14 months, Taiwan’s business indicator flashed a green light, signaling stable but cautious economic growth. The composite score fell from “yellow-red” to “green” in May, as strong factory output and exports were offset by slumping consumer demand.
New car registrations plunged over 23% year-on-year, while wholesale and retail revenues also declined sharply. Experts cited tariff concerns and exchange rate volatility as key factors behind consumers holding back on larger purchases. While manufacturing remains robust, the National Development Council warned that the coming months will reveal whether this signals stabilization — or the onset of a broader slowdown.

TSMC Named One of Time’s 100 Most Influential Companies
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) has been recognized as one of the “100 Most Influential Companies” of 2025 by Time magazine. Featured in the “Titans” category, TSMC was praised as the “brain” behind technologies powering everything from smartphones to AI data centers.
Time highlighted surging demand for TSMC’s advanced AI chips, which helped the company exceed earnings expectations in Q1. However, it also noted that TSMC’s strategic position in the AI supply chain places it at the heart of growing U.S.-China trade tensions. Other “Titan” companies on the list include Amazon, Meta, Netflix, and Berkshire Hathaway.

Chunghwa Telecom to Launch Taiwan’s First Sovereign Satellite
Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) plans to launch Taiwan’s first sovereign communications satellite by the end of 2025. The company is set to sign an agreement with U.S.-based Astranis to deploy a compact geostationary satellite offering 8 Gbps bandwidth — granting CHT full operational control for the first time.
The move is part of a broader effort to enhance Taiwan’s telecom resilience amid geopolitical risks. In recent years, CHT has expanded its presence across undersea cables, broadband, microwave systems, and various satellite orbits. In addition to the Astranis deal, Taiwan has secured exclusive access to systems from SES, OneWeb, Kuiper, and Telesat.
To further strengthen international connectivity, CHT plans to install seven new submarine cables and a new landing station, aiming to position Taiwan as a regional digital hub.
