Dear Subscriber,
Happy Monday from Taipei!
We hope you had a relaxing weekend and are ready to kick off the new week with us. Over the past days, our team has been busy hosting events, expanding our service offerings, and strengthening ties with partners in Germany and across the region.
In this edition’s Top News, we start with a look back at our German Riesling Night last week — a wonderful evening of fine wine, lively exchanges, and new connections. It was a great chance to reconnect with our network and toast to future partnerships in a relaxed summer setting. Thank you to everyone who joined and made it a memorable success!
We’re also excited to announce a helpful addition to our service portfolio: good news for everyone looking to open a bank account in Germany but lacking the required formal ID under the German Money Laundering Act (GwG). With our new GwG Identification Service, our team will guide you through the entire process quickly and reliably — so you can focus on what matters most.
Later this month, don’t miss the chance to connect with us at the IHK Außenwirtschaftstag NRW in Mönchengladbach, where our colleague Linda Blechert will highlight Taiwan’s dynamic market and share insights on business opportunities in the Asia-Pacific region.
In our GTO News, you can find out what else kept our team busy last week — for example, our visit with Dr. Jen-Der Lue, Deputy Minister at Taiwan’s Ministry of Health and Welfare, to exchange ideas on social welfare and healthcare policy.
Then, don’t miss our Trade Fair News, where we share details about the upcoming hy-fcell Stuttgart 2025. Together with TEEMA, we’re bringing Taiwanese companies to Germany this October to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the hydrogen sector.
Finally, stay tuned for the latest Taiwan News, with fresh updates on economic trends, innovation, and industry developments.
We wish you a productive start to the week and look forward to seeing you again in our next edition. Have a great week ahead!
Warm regards, Dr. Eva Langerbeck

A big thank you to everyone who joined us for last weeks Riesling Night at Guang Yi In Time Restaurant — and especially to Peter Mertes, who collaborated with us to bring a fine selection of German Riesling wines to Taipei.
It was a truly enjoyable evening filled with good conversation, great company, and delicious food. Guests had the chance to sample a variety of Riesling styles — including a refreshing alcohol-free option — all in a relaxed summer atmosphere at the heart of Songshan Cultural Park.
Cheers to a wonderful night celebrating tradition, taste, and international exchange — we hope to see you again next year!

Strengthening dialogue on social welfare and healthcare policy

|
|
Last week, we had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Jen-Der Lue, Deputy Minister at Taiwan’s Ministry of Health and Welfare, together with his colleague Ms. Ying-Siou Chen. Dr. Lue, a long-standing friend of Germany with academic ties to Bielefeld University and the Max Planck Institute in Cologne, shared his perspectives on key issues such as the super-aged society and the importance of government engagement in tackling demographic challenges.

Strengthening Ties with Düsseldorf’s Economic Development Office
|
|
|
We were delighted to welcome Simone Menshausen and Xia Qi from the Office of Economic Development, City of Düsseldorf, to our office in Taipei.
Currently supporting over 700 Chinese-speaking companies globally—among them around 30 from Taiwan—the Düsseldorf team works with industry leaders such as MediaTek, Synology, ASUS, and Chang Chun Group.
During their visit, we exchanged insights on service portfolios and explored future collaboration in areas like MedTech and UAVs. In addition to attending Medical Taiwan, we accompanied them to valuable meetings with Michelle Wang from the Institute for Biotechnology and Medicine Industry (IBMI) and Dr. Jenny Yang from Taipei Bio Innovation Park.
These exchanges help pave the way for deeper cooperation, especially in the lead-up to MEDICA 2025. We look forward to more partnerships between Taiwan and Düsseldorf!

AHK Special Analysis for Asia-Pacific Spring 2025 |
|
|
The German economy in Asia-Pacific is fighting its way out of last autumn's slump - but the headwinds remain noticeable. The business situation of German companies in many countries in this economic region is brightening slightly, but the outlook for the future remains cautious. This is shown by a special analysis of the AHK World Business Outlook from spring 2025 for the Asia-Pacific region.
The assessments of more than 900 companies with a connection to Germany show: The region remains hugely important, but geopolitical pressure is increasing - and it is becoming more difficult to plan business activities. Asia-Pacific is of outstanding importance for the German economy: around 40 per cent of German foreign trade outside the EU is now accounted for by this region - more than the whole of America combined. By comparison, total non-European trade with North, South and Central America is only 26 per cent.
"The Asian market remains a strategic future market for many companies - but the environment is getting tougher," warns Volker Treier, Head of Foreign Trade at the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (DIHK). "Geopolitics, economic policy uncertainty and new trade barriers are driving many companies to stop investing or even withdraw."
