Porsche Delivers 226,026 Vehicles in the First Nine Months

Porsche remains on course in the first nine months of the year: deliveries in the year of the product launches are at a stable level and the sales structure across the sales regions remains balanced. The Cayenne is recording strong growth. The two-door sports cars are also up on the previous year.  A total of 226,026 vehicles were handed over to customers worldwide between January and September. This corresponds to a moderate decrease of 7 percent compared to the previous year, primarily due to limited product availability. With the Panamera, Macan, Taycan and 911, four out of six model series are currently in the run-out and ramp-up phase.

Porsche Taiwan delivered a total of 4,026 vehicles in the first three quarters of 2024.  The Cayenne, the performance-based luxury SUV, recorded a notable 42% year-over-year growth, solidifying its position as the most popular model.  The iconic 911 sports car also saw strong momentum with a 44% increase year-over-year, demonstrating its enduring appeal.  The 718 model line performed steadily as well, with a 10% increase compared to the same period last year. Even before its official Taiwan launch, the highly anticipated all-electric Macan has garnered significant customer interests.

Taiwan Exports Hit New High in September

Taiwan’s exports hit a record high in September, growing 4.5% year-on-year, driven by strong demand for AI applications, the Ministry of Finance (MOF) reported. Imports also rose 17.3%, resulting in a trade surplus of $7.1 billion, though lower than the same period last year.

In Q3, exports grew 8.1%, while imports increased 15%, with a trade surplus of $23.5 billion. Over the first nine months of 2024, Taiwan’s trade surplus reached $59.6 billion, up 10.2% year-on-year.   Beatrice Tsai, MOF’s head of statistics, credited the rise to seasonal demand, new tech products, and high-performance computing tools, though export growth was slightly below expectations.

ICT and audio-visual product exports rose 24.8%, making up 28% of total exports for the year. Electronics components also saw steady growth, but traditional industries, including minerals, chemicals, and plastics, reported declines. Machinery exports dipped 1.3%, while optical equipment rose slightly.

Seasonal Winds Bolster Taiwan's Wind Power Generation

Seasonal northeasterly winds have boosted Taiwan's wind power generation, Taiwan Power Co. (Taipower) reported Friday. Since early Wednesday, wind power output has stayed above 2 gigawatts (GW), enough to meet the daily electricity needs of nearly 10 million households. This output translates to over 48 million kilowatt-hours of green energy, the company said.

Taipower noted a record high of 2.93 GW in instantaneous wind generation on Sept. 28. The installation of 372 offshore wind turbines so far reflects strong growth in renewable energy, driven by government and private sector efforts. As more turbines come online, wind power will continue expanding, complementing solar power growth. This shift to renewables will reduce reliance on coal and gas, allowing more downtime for their maintenance, Taipower added.
