Review: “Frankfurt RheinMain meets Taipei – Business Dinner“

Last Thursday, we had the special opportunity to be part of the FrankfurtRheinMain meets Taipei Business Dinner at Illume Taipei, hosted by FrankfurtRheinMain GmbH, the official investment promotion agency of the economic powerhouse in the heart of Germany. The event brought together 40 distinguished guests from Taiwan and Frankfurt. The get together built and deepened important bonds to tap into the rich potential that cooperation between the two vibrant economies holds, all while indulging in an exquisite dinner and wine from the Frankfurt region.

The Frankfurt Rhein Main region is well known to be an international hub for many critical sectors such as the automotive, medical and IT industries as well as being the EU’s finance center. The presence of leading companies along entire supply chains concentrated in a dense network of logistical infrastructure with direct access to Germany’s largest airport and a vast talent pool at the 43 universities and higher education institutions, the Frankfurt Rhein Main region is one of the most fruitful environments worldwide for investments and company foundation.

We felt especially honored to have Mr. Ulrich Caspar, President of the Frankfurt Chamber of Commerce and Industry, at the event last night. In his welcome remark, he stressed the promising potential of concerted efforts between Frankfurt and Taiwan in the years to come. Mr. Caspar joined the dinner as part of a delegation to Taiwan, comprised of senior industry representatives of the Frankfurt region. Among them also last night’s host, Mr. Eric Menges, CEO of FrankfurtRheinMain GmbH, who enriched the evening with an insightful presentation about his region. Furthermore, guests had the opportunity to hear a presentation on banking options in Germany by Ms. Ingrid Chang of Deutsche Bank Taiwan, as well as an interesting talk by Mr. Henry Liao of Ecovis Taiwan about the law and accounting related aspects of setting up business in Germany.

We are grateful to have been a part of this evening and look forward to experiencing it again soon.

ZEISS Opens Innovation Center in Hsinchu Science Park

ZEISS has proudly opened its innovation center in Hsinchu Science Park, Taiwan. This endeavor underscores a significant investment in the Taiwanese semiconductor industry and local engineering talent. Peng Ta Cheong, head of ZEISS Taiwan, highlighted the company’s commitment to innovation. “ZEISS Group invests more than 15% of its revenue in R&D annually, with a total investment of 28.1 billion NTD from 2023 to 2024. Review: Silicon Saxony Day Delegation – Part 2

The establishment of TSMC in Dresden, Germany, is driving the European semiconductor industry into a new era. However, the growth of the entire industry depends significantly on the integration of the surrounding supply chain. To support this, Saxony Trade & Invest hosted a briefing session for our Taiwan Supply Chain Delegation. They invited Germany Trade & Invest, Deutsche Bank, eureos GmbH, the City of Dresden, intap network GmbH, and Tüv Süd to deliver insightful speeches.

The topics covered included business setups, banking and business consulting, regulations, taxes, talent acquisition, soft landing strategies, and product certification. Additionally, City of Dresden provided a field tour, leading the delegation through factory areas and commercial zones. That way, they offered practical demonstrations to explain the industrial environment.

With active assistance from Saxony, Taiwanese companies gained a clearer understanding of the investment landscape in Saxony and the advantages it offers.

For any inquiries about investing in Saxony, please contact our colleague Ms. Venus Peng at 02-7735-7524 or peng.venus@taiwan.ahk.de. Together with Saxony Trade & Invest, we are ready to provide full assistance and support.

Review: Infineon Press Conference

Infineon, a leading global automotive semiconductor manufacturer, announced on Monday at the German Institute Taipei that it will invest NTD 1.2 billion in Taiwan. This investment aims to establish the "Infineon Advanced Automotive and Wireless Communication Semiconductor R&D Center," focusing on the development trends in the automotive industry and the strengths of Taiwan's ICT industry. Infineon will collaborate with local industry, academia, and research partners to jointly develop automotive-grade communication chips and innovative application solutions.

Supported by the Ministry of Economic Affairs' A+ project, the plan includes complete R&D in Taiwan for the next generation of automotive Bluetooth chip products. Infineon will partner with institutions such as the Industrial Technology Research Institute, National Taiwan University, National Cheng Kung University, Taipei Tech, as well as several local network communication module manufacturers and automotive system developers. This collaboration will focus on the application of wireless communication technologies like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth in automobiles and is expected to drive the value of Taiwan's automotive electronics industry to NTD 60 billion.

The ceremony concluded perfectly with the joint witness of Dr. Jörg Polster, Director General of the German Institute Taipei, Minister of Economic Affairs Jyh-Huei Kuo, and Infineon Executive Vice President of IoT, Compute & Wireless, Sam Geha. This cooperation project not only strengthens the economic and trade relations between Taiwan and Germany but also sets a new milestone in Taiwan-Germany collaboration. With Infineon's assistance, it will propel Taiwan to the forefront of the global automotive chip industry.

Financial Institutes Optimistic About Outlook: Report

Local financial institutes are relatively upbeat about business prospects this year, with 50 percent expecting revenue growth, compared with 33 percent in other sectors, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Taiwan said, citing findings of an in-depth interview with local financial leaders.

The interview showed local financial service providers have emerged from two years of drastic monetary tightening and would focus their attention on artificial intelligence (AI) and sustainability to stay competitive.

The sentiment pickup came after major central banks put an end to steep interest rate hikes, and inflation and geopolitical tensions subsided, PwC said.
