Dear Subscriber,
Pride Month is here! Let’s remind ourselves of the importance of acceptance. It is a wonderful time to celebrate love, diversity and the progress made toward equality for the LGBTQ+ community. Be proud of who you are!
This week and next week we will host several events. You are invited of course and we would love to see you there!
Are you free on Thursday? If so, do you want to attend our IFA Media Reception on Thursday, June 6? Working as a journalist is no requirement, everyone is welcome to join! In the name of IFA 2024, the world’s largest trade fair for consumer electronics, we will give the audience a preview of what IFA 2024 will showcase this year in Berlin. Our Top News offer more information on how to register.
Are you free on Friday? If so, are you a soccer fan? If the answer is yes, you should come watch our 2nd GTO German Company Charity Soccer Tournament! For the first time we will participate in the match against 15 other teams. Read more about this nerve-racking event in our GTO News. If you want to get an insight into our first soccer training session last weekend, check out our dedicated report in this section of the GTO News.
Are you free next Friday? On June 14, we will host our German Riesling Night with Peter Mertes, the classy wine night we have mentioned in our past newsletters. In the most elegant setting, our wine night offers you the opportunity to network in a sophisticated manner! We only live once – so drink great wine, German white wine to be exact! A few spots are still available. Check out our invitation in our Top News.
Event invitations aside, last week we organized the very first edition of the German Road Safety Fair in Taipei! In corporation with multiple German companies, we taught elementary students important traffic rules. It was heart-warming interacting with the children and knowing that we leave a positive impact on their young minds. For a detailed dossier, kindly browse our GTO News.
On a more serious note, together with the Netherlands Office Taipei we conducted a seminar titled "How Germany & Netherlands Shape the Semiconductor Landscape" last Friday. Read our summary in our GTO News.
Before we forget: Did you know that today the world celebrates National Egg Day? If you do not happen to follow a vegan diet, why don’t you have one right now or for lunch or dinner latest? Eggs make a great source for pantothenic acid, vitamin A and are high in protein! “Guten Appetit!”
Kind regards,

Review: Visit to the New Taipei City Government

Last Tuesday, our trade fair team visited the Tourism Marketing Division of the Tourism and Travel Department of the New Taipei City Government. During this visit, we had the pleasure of meeting Senior Specialist Ms. Sophia Chen, Executive Officer Ms. Wan-Ling Kao, Head Mr. Jen-Jin Hsieh and Officer Ms. Wei-Liang Hsu.
We have maintained a strong partnership with the New Taipei City Government for our Christmas market for many years and are eager to deepen this cooperation to foster the tourism industry between Germany and Taiwan. The purpose of our visit was to discuss plans for 2024 and 2025 to promote “The Beauty of Taiwan” at two upcoming trade fairs: ITB Asia 2024, scheduled for October 23-25 and ITB Berlin 2025, taking place from March 4-6, 2025. During our discussions, we provided a brief introduction of ITB Asia 2024 and invited New Taipei City to join the Taiwan Team.
Additionally, the New Taipei City Government has invited us to participate in more events to experience the rich culture, traditions and natural beauty of Taiwan. We are very excited about these opportunities and look forward to them. We thank everyone involved for the warm hospitality!

Review: "How Germany & Netherlands shape the Semiconductor Landscape"
|
|
|
Last Friday, we concluded a dynamic and informative seminar titled "How Germany & Netherlands Shape the Semiconductor Landscape" held in Hsinchu. This event was a collaborative effort by the Netherlands Office Taipei and us. The cooperation brought two of Europe's leading high-tech countries together to explore their extensive histories and current advancements in the semiconductor industry. More than 70 people participated in our event!
The seminar kicked off with a joint opening by representatives from our office and the Netherlands Office Taipei. The first speaker, Mr. Martin Meyer from Germany Trade & Invest (GTAI), highlighted Germany's strengths as a prime location for the semiconductor industry. Following this, Mr. Bruce Wang from Bosch Rexroth presented solutions tailored for the semiconductor sector. Mr. Matthijs van der Hoorn from the Netherlands Office Taipei and Ms. Mariëlle Lagers from the Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency (NFIA) then introduced the Dutch Semiconductor Ecosystem. Mr. Rinie Coort from Schunk Xycarb Technology concluded the presentations by discussing their critical role in the EPI consumables semiconductor industry worldwide and explaining why they chose Taiwan as a strategic location.
The seminar ended with a networking session, offering participants the opportunity to connect with the speakers, industry experts, and representatives from both offices. Additionally, consultation desks were available on-site to provide guidance on investing in Germany or the Netherlands and other services related to expanding business footprints.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our speakers, our co-organizers and all attendees for making this seminar possible!

Review: German Road Safety Fair
|
|
|
Last Tuesday, we held our much-anticipated German Road Safety event at Youth Park Taipei, Children Traffic Park. The event aimed to educate children in Taiwan on road safety and correct traffic behavior. Participating schools included Xiyuan Elementary School in Wanhua and the German branch of the Taipei European School, with a total of 200 students.
At noon, we hosted a welcoming ceremony with speeches from five distinguished guests: Our Acting Delegate Ms. Leonie Yang, Dr. Jörg Polster from the German Institute Taipei, Ms. Huei-Ju Huang from the Department of Transportation, Mr. Chin-Chuan Teng from the Department of Education of Taipei City, and Mr. Seng-Shun Chang, the principal of Xiyuan Elementary School. A group photo was taken with the VIPs, German company representatives, Mr. Andreas Hilsbos of the German School Taipei, and the children.
We set up seven different booths where students, alongside German companies, learned crucial traffic rules. Bosch demonstrated the importance of good braking systems in motorbikes, while Opel and Volkswagen introduced the students to road signs. DQS taught the children how to cross a road safely, and Dekra and Mercedes highlighted the dangers of using phones as pedestrians and emphasized the importance of stopping at red lights. TÜV SÜD educated them about blind spots near buses, and Foodpanda engaged the students with an interactive quiz and allowed them to try on their uniforms as they emphasize bike safety and provide helmets for their delivery drivers.
It was an action-packed day filled with playfulness, principles, and puddles (yes, it rained quite a bit in the morning). We are thrilled with the event's success and grateful to everyone who made it possible. A big thanks goes to the cooperation of the Department of Transportation and the Department of Education of Taipei City. We look forward to next year’s road safety event!
Supporting companies: Bosch Taiwan, DEKRA, DQS, foodpanda, Opel, TÜV SÜD, Mercedes-Benz Taiwan, Ltd.

Review: GTO Soccer Team Getting Ready for the Tournament
|
|
|
One team, one dream – Our first training session for this year’s soccer tournament
Last Sunday, our colleagues met up at the outdoor soccer field on the NTU campus. Their purpose: to get ready to score some goals and make dreams come true at our long-awaited 2nd edition of the GTO Germany Company Charity Soccer Tournament on Friday, June 7, at the Taipei Gymnasium. In exciting 15-minute games of 5 vs. 5 players, 16 teams will compete for the title of reigning champion among German companies in Taiwan.
Even though our colleagues faced some initial challenges when it came to recruiting enough members for our team, after we started outsourcing we found a great selection of motivated young men who showed up last weekend and demonstrated their support for us and true team spirit.
The lawn we played on was soaking wet and we slipped and got slightly hurt more than once. But no pain, no gain. The GTO team won’t give up that fast. It will all be worth it and for a good cause! In the spirit of the upcoming football summer, each goal scored will contribute 1,500 NT$ to the Make-A-Wish Taiwan foundation, fulfilling the wishes of children with critical illnesses aged 3-18 years old.
Let's lace up our boots and make a difference! Join us for a day of friendly competition and team spirit, scoring goals for the greater good. More information on the game can be found here.

The NDC uses a five-color system to gauge the country's economic performance, with blue indicating economic contraction, yellow-blue representing sluggishness, green signifying stable growth, yellow-red referring to a warming economy, and red pointing to an overheated or booming economy.
