Review: Seminar "Discovering Taiwan's Plastics & Rubber Industry – Development and Opportunities"

Last Wednesday we wrapped up an insightful session on Taiwan's plastics and rubber industry, and what a remarkable event it was! Numerous participants joined us online to discover the latest developments and future opportunities within this exciting industry. In collaboration with TAITRA and the Plastics Industry Development Center (PIDC), we hosted a 60-minute webinar.

Our speaker, Yuhzi Lin from the Plastics Industry Development Center, provided valuable insights into Taiwan's dynamic plastics and rubber market, offering guidance on how foreign manufacturers can seize the opportunities within. From discussions on green sustainability to strategies for staying ahead in the industry, the webinar was rich with information. Together with TAITRA, we even got to introduce our German Pavilion at the upcoming trade fair, TaipeiPLAS. The event ended with a Q&A session that allowed participants to deepen their understanding by asking questions that arose during the presentations.

We extend our gratitude to our wonderful speaker, our co-organizers, and all our attendees.

Exports Rise for 6th Straight Month on Solid Demand for AI, HPC Devices

Taiwan's exports rose more than 4 percent from a year earlier in April, marking the sixth consecutive monthly year-on-year increase, on the back of global strong demand for emerging technologies, the Ministry of Finance (MOF) said Wednesday.

At a time when solid demand for artificial intelligence applications and high performance computing (HPC) devices offset the impact from slower demand faced by many old economy industries, the country's outbound sales rose 4.3 percent from a year earlier to US$37.48 billion after a 18.9 percent year-on-year increase in March.

Taiwan Inflation Drops Below 2% in April

The consumer price index (CPI) fell through the 2% barrier to 1.95% in April, while inflation for household necessities fell into negative territory at minus 0.16% compared to the same month last year, the government said Tuesday (April 7).

Core inflation, without taking energy prices for energy, fruit, and vegetables into account, fell to 1.81%, according to the Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics (DGBAS). If discarding the impact of the Lunar New Year holiday, the CPI has reached its lowest level in nine months, per CNA.

Taiwan's NCKU Develops New Semiconductor Probe Material

A team led by National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) Professor Hung Fei-yi (洪飛義) developed a new material for semiconductor testing.

According to an NCKU press release on Monday (May 6), Hung’s team successfully used ultrafine stainless steel wires to perform conductivity tests on semiconductors for spring probes. The new heat-resistant wires are more cost-effective and can reduce environmental pollution compared to commonly used copper or gold wires, per CNA.

Taiwan's Foxconn Sees Record April Sales

Foxconn reported on Sunday (May 5) record-high April consolidated sales of NT$510.9 billion (US$15.82 billion), an increase of 14% from the previous month, largely due to the sale of AI products and Apple’s new MacBook Air line.

Strong sales figures come as Q2 is a traditionally slow season for many IT companies. Foxconn expects April sales momentum to carry through the rest of the year.
