Guten Tag, ça va, arrivederci! This past weekend, Huashan Creative Park was transformed into a vibrant hub of European culture in the name of the Europe Festival. Held on Saturday and Sunday for the fourth time in Taiwan, the festival aimed to bridge the gap between Taiwan and Europe, providing attendees with a taste of European culture and answering their questions about all things European. The festival grounds provided the perfect spot for the festivities. One of the highlights of the festival was the opening ceremony on Saturday. It took place on the main stage amidst the sprawling greenery of the park. In cooperation with the German Institute Taipei as well as the 歌德學院(台北)德國文化中心 Goethe-Institut Taipei, our four interns had a great time sharing information about German culture and chatting with the many interesting people who showed up at our booth. A fun activity that engaged guests was the "Road-Map" challenge, where attendees could collect stamps representing different EU member states by visiting each respective booth. To encourage participation and learning, we offered quiz questions with Germany-centric themes. And guess what – Our interns turned into popular real-life quiz masters! Guests who answered three questions about German trivia correctly received a stamp in return. In addition to informational resources, our stand offered various goodies such as tote bags, gummy bears and pens, much to the delight of the attendees. We also provided entertainment for younger festival-goers with German flag face painting, adding a playful touch to the cultural exchange.Overall, the Europe Festival was a blast! We had the chance to bring together people from all kinds of backgrounds to celebrate German culture and to establish meaningful connections between Taiwan and Germany. We look forward to next year’s European festival and continuing to share the richness of German culture with the Taiwanese community.

Artificial Intelligence Lifts Taiwan Q1 GDP Growth to 6.5%
Taiwan’s Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics (DGBAS) announced that economic growth in Q1 reached 6.51%, the highest in three years, powered by AI exports.
Demand for AI drove Taiwan exports to the best performance in 11 quarters and a 0.59% increase over the quarterly growth forecast made by DGBAS in February. DGBAS attributed the strong growth to a better-than-expected performance by exports and continued momentum associated with private consumption, per CNA.

Agencies Reaffirm Ratings for Taiwan
Moody’s Ratings and S&P Global Ratings have reaffirmed Taiwan’s sovereign credit ratings at “As3” and “AA+” respectively with a stable outlook on the back of high income and wealth levels, a strong institutional framework and robust external positions.
The affirmations came as Taiwan’s economy is gaining momentum after quarters of slowdown induced by stubborn global inflation and monetary tightening.
Taiwan’s strong fiscal and external buffers have improved relative to peers as evidenced by recent shocks linked to the COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing US-China technology dispute, the two ratings firms said.

Delta Expects Revenue to Improve From Last Quarter
Power supply and electronic components maker Delta Electronics Co (台達電) said that revenue this quarter would be higher than last quarter, partly due to fewer working days.
The company’s operations in the first half of the year are also expected to be better than the same period last year, on the back of rising sales of artificial intelligence (AI) related power supplies and electronic components, continued sales growth in power components for automotive electronics, and improvement in power solutions for automation and infrastructure businesses, it said.
Thanks to the production of heat dissipation parts for AI servers powered by Nvidia Corp’s GB200 chips in the second half of the year, coupled with the rising contribution of AI power supplies to total sales, Delta’s overall operations in the second half of the year would be stronger, it added.
