Dear Subscriber,

on Thursday, Alexander Hirschle, Director of GTAI in Taiwan, and I welcomed students from the German Academic Scholarship Foundation (Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes) to our office and briefed them on the current state of the Taiwanese economy.

In the evening we then met the delegation of members of the state parliament of the federal state of Bavaria, visiting Taiwan. After a thorough briefing on Taiwan’s economy, we intensely discussed with the Vice-President of the Bavarian State parliament Markus Rinderspacher and the members of Bavarian State parliament Gabi Schmidt, Barbara Becker and Christoph Skutella how to further extend the cooperation between Taiwan and Bavaria. Many Bavarian companies such as Audi, BMW, Allianz and Adidas are already invested in Taiwan and regard Taiwan as an important market for their products.

Next week on Thursday, November 14, our fourth Wirtschaftsstammtisch will take place. I cordially invite you to join this great networking event in the Sunworld Dynasty Hotel Taipei with great food and a free flow of Erdinger beer sponsored by Millenia Commercial. It will be a great opportunity for you to meet with all kinds of business people and to get to know new potential business partners in a relaxed atmosphere.

Once more, I would like to remind you of our Business Confidence Survey that we are currently conducting. The results will give us the chance to exactly evaluate the current situation of German companies operating in Taiwan. Only with a broad feedback we will be able address the most pressing issues on a governmental level and to work for the betterment of the business conditions. Your opinion matters and thus your participation will be highly appreciated!

From last week Friday onwards, we went on our annual outing during which we travelled to Kenting. We had a great weekend with several fruitful meetings and training sessions combined with leisure and team building activities.

What happened in Taiwan last week? According to the Ministry of Economic Affairs, about NT$200 billion (US$6.56 billion) of the approved investments by Taiwanese companies moving their production back to Taiwan is expected to materialize by the end of this year. Furthermore, the economic growth was revised upwards to 2.91 percent from the 2.67 percent predicted for the third quarter of 2019. Thus, Taiwan performed better than the three other Asian Tigers, being ahead of Hongkong, Singapore and South Korea.

I wish you a pleasant day.
