Welcome!

Dear Subscriber,

first of all, after successfully conducting our “4th Germany – Taiwan Smart Machinery Forum & 18th Germany Taiwan Joint Business Council” with over 100 participants from Germany and Taiwan in Stuttgart on September 13, I would like to cordially thank all speakers and companies for their tremendous support and commitment to this very important bilateral event. The presentations given by representatives from Bosch Rexroth, the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence, SAP, Schunk, Siemens and TRUMPF delivered great insides about “industry 4.0” based solutions.

Last Friday, together with our partner AOW, we hosted our very first GTO wine-tasting. It was a fantastic event during which 20 participants could taste seven excellent German wines ranging from floral dry Rieslings to cherry oak Pinot Noirs under the instruction of international wine judge and WSET-tutor Sherry Weng. We hereby would also like to thank our sponsor Forimex Deutscher Weinkeller for their great support.

This week, as part of the German Energy Solutions Initiative by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi), we will welcome a delegation of five renowned German companies active in the field of offshore wind to Taiwan. During our “German-Taiwanese Offshore Wind Conference” at the Sherwood Taipei, participants will learn about the latest technologies and products in the offshore wind energy sector. In the following few days, the companies will then have B2B meetings with various Taiwanese companies to build up new business relations and to enter the Taiwanese market in the long run.

What happened in Taiwan last week? According to the Allianz Group’s global wealth report published last week, with net financial assets in Taiwan rising 8.4 percent annually to 97,850€ per capita last year, Taiwan overtook Japan for the first time and was the second richest in Asia only trailing Singapore. Worldwide, Taiwan was ranked number four, with number one being the United States followed by Switzerland.

GTO Wine-Tasting

Last Friday, September 20th, the first GTO Wine-Tasting took place. The 20 participants who braced the rain to come to the German Trade Office were rewarded with International Wine Judge and WSET-Tutor Sherry Weng’s explanation of the wine regions and grape varieties that give German wine its exceptional character. Of course, the participants also had plenty of opportunity to affirm their appreciation of German wines with their own palates, thanks to our sponsor, Forimex Deutscher Weinkeller. We also thank our partner, AOW, and all participants for a successful event!

GDPR and PDPA-compliance: What You Need to Know

The German Trade Office Taipei would like to invite you to join our workshop on GDPR and PDPA-compliance together with our partner KPMG.

Event Details:
Date: 25/10/2019 | 13:30 - 17:00
Location: German Trade Office Taipei

More than one year has passed since the EU General Data Protection Regulation has been enacted. However, according to a survey conducted by the European Business Awards, a lot of businesses, including around 30% of European businesses are not yet compliant. Lesser known yet highly relevant for business in Taiwan is the Taiwan Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA). The PDPA applies to all companies, individuals and public organizations doing business in Taiwan.

The German Trade Office is proud to work with our partner KPMG to provide a workshop to discuss implications of the GDPR and the PDPA as well as the necessary steps businesses can take to ensure compliance with the regulations.
