During this year's ILA Berlin (ILA Berlin - Pioneering Aerospace), taking place from June 5 to 9, Diehl Defence presents for the first time a model of the new Light Remote Carrier FEANIX. FEANIX stands for Future Effector - Adaptable, Networked, Intelligent, Xpendable. The Light Remote Carrier (LRC) is characterized by a weight of <300 kilograms and a length of <4 meters. It is a long-range effector which can be launched from the air, from land as well as from sea. Due to its modularity, the LRC is individually equippable with different payloads, from sensors to lethal and non-lethal effectors, depending on the operational scenario and mission. Thanks to the low signature (low observable), the Light Remote Carrier is difficult to detect by the enemy air defence and it makes a valuable contribution to the networked battle management. Besides the mentioned modularity, FEANIX is also characterized by its networking, swarming, robustness and stand-off capability. Remote Carriers are a core element of the international FCAS program, but are also used beyond the FCAS role, which is why Diehl Defence aims for an operational availability well before the FCAS realization period of 2040+. And once again Dr. Markus Söder is moaning and complaining about how mean everyone is to Bavaria, and the Greens are all stupid anyway. Unfortunately Mr Söder has a very short memory, as he made his own financial support for Lilium dependent on the federal government's commitment. So let's be clear: Bavaria will only pay if the federal government pays. If the Prime Minister thinks his toy is so important, so disruptive, then Bavaria could have doubled its share, i.e. also taken on the federal government's contribution. If the company is as great as Hubert Aiwanger says, then it should be a safe investment. And it won't fail because of the availability of 50 million euros from the Bavarian state budget. But neither Markus nor his buddy Aiwanger come up with such an idea out of sheer hypocrisy. Why is that? If you pay the entire sum yourself, then you would be the only stupid person in the room if it fails. Who should you blame then? Yourself? These two buddies are already busy enough praising themselves through alternative accounts... Bavaria already has to manage the moon mission, Transrapid, Hyperloop, Wirecard and the Max Bögl toy train. At some point, even the best Christlich-Soziale Union buddies will run out of funding... Now that the federal government has said no, they can save 50 million and pass the buck to the Greens, can things go better? The unmanned first flight of a two-seater prototype took place on April 20, 2017 at the Oberpfaffenhofen airfield near Munich. On May 4, 2019, the five-seater prototype of the Lilium Jet took off from the ground for about 40 seconds for the first time. It was presented to the public a short time later. The market launch with a 7-seater, originally planned for 2024, was postponed to 2025 in March 2022. A 16-seater is also already planned. In February 2024, the delivery of the first jets was postponed to mid-2026. So just constant postponements, OK.... Couldn't the statement also apply to Mr Söder himself? Or the CSU/FDP transport minister? Wait a moment... That's exactly why the company is a PERFECT fit for Markus Söder.

📹 Gold rush in space - the business of space flight 🚀   Some time ago, filming took place at our site in #Augsburg for a Bayerischer Rundfunk television programme.   COO and co-founder of the Rocket Factory Augsburg - RFA Dr. Stefan Brieschenk gave a presentation on the opportunities in New Space at a meeting of the IHK Schwaben.   The RFA wants to build and launch rockets to bring payload into space for its customers at low cost.   Our department in Augsburg is working together with the RFA to support New Space development in Germany, e.g. in a research project funded by the State of Bavaria where lightweight structures and production technologies are being developed in close collaboration with the Universität Augsburg.   Michael Kupke mentioned that New Space is helping to make space related technologies and applications affordable and common for everyone. But not in the way that MElon sells other people's ideas and visions as his own. At last year's VivaTech he already exuded a lot of OPTIMUSism and dictated things from his spoiled point of view. https://lnkd.in/ejMPVxhM So much for the no. Now the yes. And it's a pretty big YES. Affordable humanoid robots have the potential to revolutionize our society. Infrastructure could remain tailored to humans. If necessary, people could continue to work while the bot is being repaired, upgraded or whatever. Nicely demonstrated by the University of Tokyo with their chauffeur bot. Even vintage cars could participate in networked and autonomous mobility. https://lnkd.in/eFzWiDZg But the biggest revolution will be in the liberation of people. Instead of "paying" a plumber bot, garden bot or whatever bot for a service, the personal humanoid robots will simply "watch and learn" an iFixit how to, a repair manual, or a YouTube video. Thus, all the daily stuff that the person does not want to do (but can) is outsourced to the personal robot. So all the daily stuff that people don't want to do (but can) is outsourced to their personal assistant. What people do with the freed up time is up to them. But it will work the same way as with media consumption. The smart ones will get smarter and the stupid ones... well. But what should definitely not happen is that a sociopath with far too much money and a god complex has access to your personal robots. Just as he can (and does) put your Tesla or Starlink into maintenance mode if he doesn't like you, it would be dangerous if an army of "his" robots organized a new January 6th. Globally. Just like Pinky and the Brain decide for world domination....

🥈Silver goes to… ... the team from Technische Universität Braunschweig, with their concept "VoltAirs-95". Last week we hosted the 8th Design Challenge final event of the German Aerospace Center (DLR). Congratulations to the winners and to all other participants for the hard work and efforts put into this! VoltAirs-95 is a hybrid-electric concept with a capacity of 95 passengers. It has a design range of almost 900 kilometers and is powered by ten distributed electric propellers. The motors are powered by batteries housed in the aircraft's fuselage and wings. Additionally, an engine located in the rear, powered by sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), can produce electricity for reserve missions or flights to more distant destinations when the battery capacity is not sufficient. The aircraft's design is conventional, featuring a V-tail configuration. The windowless fuselage is equipped with OLED displays in the cabin, which provide passengers with sufficient comfort while reducing the structural weight. The judges appreciated the student's focus on high feasibility, achieved through cautious and thoughtful technology choices, resulting in a design that is impressive in its maturity. The team who came up with this design are Lukas Thiesen, Gent Gutaj, Anna Vorndran, Aleksandre Kobeshavidze, Christian Dietrich and Mika Rasch. We are curious to see your ideas take off. Here’s some information about the BALIS 2.0 Project by H2FLY: Project Overview: The BALIS 2.0 Project aims to develop and test a high-performance fuel cell system with an output of 350 kW specifically designed for commercial aircraft applications. This fuel cell system serves as a basic module for developing hydrogen-electric powertrain systems in the #megawatt-class range. These systems could potentially power regional aircraft with 40 to 80 seats in the future, all while operating emission-free. The project is led by H2FLY and receives support from the (German Aerospace Center (DLR) and Diehl Aviation, 1. Funding and Timeline: From 2024 to 2026, the BALIS 2.0 project will receive approximately EUR 9.3 million in funding from the German Federal Ministry for Digitalisation and Transport (BMDV). This funding is also part of the German Recovery and Resilience Plan (DARP) through the European Recovery and Resilience Facilities (ARF) in the NextGenerationEU Programme. The project consortium, including companies and research institutions, is committed to advancing hydrogen fuel cell systems for commercial aviation, contributing to CO2-neutral flying and addressing the global challenge of aviation decarbonisation 1. Recent Milestone: On September 7, 2023, H2FLY achieved a significant milestone by successfully completing the world’s first piloted flight of an electric aircraft powered by #liquidhydrogen 2. In just a few years, hydrogen-electric aircraft are expected to transport passengers over distances of up to 2,000 kilometers, revolutionising regional air travel with sustainable and emission-free technology. 3. How do you feel when you are asked to do something you haven't done in ages? Last week, I gave my first presentation in 10 years because VON ARDENNE took part in the Tour de Dresden 2024. The event was organized by Technische Universität Dresden and gave students the opportunity to discover companies and explore career options in Dresden within four days. And it gave me the opportunity to give a presentation again after a long time preparing and checking slides for others. This time, all the regular speakers were not available so I had to fill in - talk about leaving your comfort zone. 🙂 And what can I say: I enjoyed it a lot and it gave me a new push for my work. It definitely helped that the presentation was shared between many speakers, so I had the pleasure to work with some friendly colleagues like I Made Wahyu Diyatmika in a new setting. On the whole, it was a nice event - hopefully for the students two, who got some insights into the different aspects of work at VON ARDENNE, saw a coating machine up close and an ice cream on top. Can rarely put in words how deeply I embrace this strong statement by Matthias 👍 Our friends from Helios paradigmatically stand for this. By developing efficient methods to extract oxygen from the lunar soil they discovered a novel method to produce green iron (and other metals) very energy/cost-efficiently, opening a great potential for the steel industry to decarbonize their value chain without any "green premium". To make just one amendment: In the long run, the survival of all life on our home planet depends on our will and capabilities to become a star-faring civilization. As "four billion years from now, the increase in Earth's surface temperature will cause a runaway greenhouse effect, (...) heating Earth's surface enough to melt it. By that point, all life on Earth will be extinct." Those wo care about environment and sustainability can't seriously be against space travel. When you look at the broader picture. After three months of processing data, reviewing countless hours of footage, editing and thinking about the future paths, we’ve finally completed the final version of a video showcasing our journey as Team UBADRON. This feels like the perfect moment to reflect on what we achieved during the SPRIND - Bundesagentur für Sprunginnovationen "Fully Autonomous Flight" Challenge. Although we didn’t achieve the outcome we hoped for in the final race in September, I couldn’t be prouder of the progress we made. Over nine intense months, we designed and implemented a cooperative high-flyer, low-flyer UAV system, tackling the challenge of fully autonomous flight in GNSS-denied environments. Our innovative combination of redundancy of positioning solutions based on tactical-grade IMUs and laser scan matching along with cooperative navigation, and a dedicated team of experts allowed us to push boundaries and learn immensely. It wasn’t just about the competition; it was about growth, overcoming challenges, and contributing to the future of autonomous aviation. This journey wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible effort of the SPRIN-D team of Jano Costard, Patrick P. R., Julia Ebenauer, Eileen Stahl, Felix Rothe and Kilian S.. Thank you for creating such a challenging and inspiring platform for innovation. To the jury of Aamir Ahmad, Christian Schneider, Sheila Beladinejad, Hans Koenigsmann, Joerg Dittrich and Christoph Petroll, thank you for recognizing our progress and pushing us to improve at every stage.
