Recap: Shaping the Circular Economy – Opportunities for Taiwanese Companies in NRW Yesterday, together with NRW.Global Business GmbH, we hosted an inspiring online seminar on the circular economy and the business opportunities it opens in North Rhine-Westphalia for Taiwanese companies. The event began with opening remarks by Ms. Becker Astrid, General Manager Asia, Australia, NRW.Global Business GmbH, followed by a welcoming speech by Ms. Ying-Ying Lai, Director General of the Resource Circulation Administration (RECA), Ministry of Environment. Speakers included Dr. Carsten Gerhardt, Chairman of the Circular Valley Foundation, who presented a market overview and business opportunities in NRW; Mr. Benno Weissner zent, Team Leader at ZENIT – Enterprise Europe Network NRW, who spoke about regulatory developments in Germany; Mr. Jim Tai Manager of REMONDIS Taiwan 台灣瑞曼迪斯, who addressed opportunities beyond plastics; Dr. Simon Bremer, Head of Development at ACCUREC-Recycling GmbH, who discussed sustainable lithium from battery recycling; Ms. Susanne Baumann from NRW.Global Business GmbH, who spoke about shaping business success in NRW; and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Uwe Handmann from the University of Applied Sciences Hochschule Ruhr West, who presented on AI applications for the circular economy. ✨ Meet our new legal intern, Steffi! (張菲菲 )   Steffi is currently completing her legal clerkship (Rechtsreferendariat) at the Regional Court of Duisburg after graduating in 2023 with a law degree from the University of Cologne including a semester abroad at the China University of Political Science and Law in Beijing.   🌏 Her motivation for joining us is to strengthen her intercultural competence in the Asian region, refresh and improve her language skills, and gain a deeper understanding of Taiwan’s culture, food, and everyday life. Having already gathered experience working with Asian clients, she is also eager to continue building her expertise in this area for the future.   Over the next few months, Steffi will be handling legal inquiries, drafting and reviewing contracts, and supporting legal aspects of company foundation. ⚽Bringing Hope to Children with Critical Illnesses: Our 3rd German Charity Soccer Tournament in Taiwan!   Last Friday, we hosted our 3rd German Charity Soccer Tournament. Co-hosted by the Taipei City Government’s Department of Sports, A STAR Football Academy, the event saw participation of twelve German companies competing in exciting five-a-side matches, donating NTD 1,000 per goal to the Raising Children Medical Foundation. This year, the tournament raised a total of NTD 223,000 to support pediatric healthcare in Taiwan, which was presented to the foundation on-site.   🥇Congratulations to Team TRUMPF, who won the final against top scorer Tianmu United, scoring a total of 54 goals throughout the tournament! 🥉Our team proudly secured third place, scoring 35 goals and contributing NTD 35,000 to this meaningful cause.   We are proud that the Charity Soccer Tournament highlighted the strong engagement of German companies in Taiwan and the positive impact sports and charity can create. 👋 Meet our new Market Entry Intern, Rebecca! (王宥媗) Rebecca is currently pursuing her bachelor’s degree in International Business and German Language and Culture at Soochow University. Last year, she spent a semester as an exchange student at the University of Münster in Germany, gaining valuable cross-cultural experience and life insights. She will join the Market Entry team, participating in market entry projects, conducting market research and analysis, and assisting with translations between Chinese, English, and German. Through her work, she will help promote and strengthen business cooperation between Germany and Taiwan. With her academic background, Rebecca hopes to gain practical experience in Germany–Taiwan business relations through this internship. Outside of her studies, Rebecca enjoys exploring new activities, especially in sports, music, and food. She has tried free diving, completed two half-marathons, and even cycled across half of Taiwan. On Tuesday evening, we co-organized the Saxony Executive Networking Dinner, hosted by the Saxon State Ministry for Economic Affairs, Labour, Energy, and Climate Action and Saxony Trade & Invest Corp.   Thanks to a diverse group of attendees from both Germany and Taiwan, participants were able to have open discussions over a delicious meal, accompanied by presentations to give valuable market insights.   Mr. Dirk Panter, State Minister for Economic Affairs, Labour, Energy and Climate Action of the German Federal State of Saxony presented the highlights of Saxony and investment successes. Our Executive Director Dr. Eva Langerbeck gave a brief introduction of the Taiwanese market and introduced the participating Taiwanese companies. Finally, representative of the German Institute Taipei, Ms. Leila Schneider and Ms. Nicole Steinhauer, as well as Mr. Frank Bösenberg Director of Silicon Saxony, gave an overview of investment opportunities and advice on starting business in Germany.    🤝Thank you very much to our friends and colleagues from Saxony for the opportunity to create a platform to foster this collaboration. Panel Discussion Recap: Trends and Developments in the Semiconductor Industry   On Tuesday, we held a panel discussion about trends and developments in the semiconductor industry in Germany, Taiwan and beyond, in collaboration Dr. Josef Goldberger, Head of Saxon Science Liaison Office Taiwan. We were happy to see so many young students, especially from Saxony, joining us for this event.   Each of the speakers were experts in their respective fields, giving brief presentations to kick off the conversation. Mr. Frank Bösenberg Director of Silicon Saxony, spoke specifically on the European semiconductor ecosystem, with an outlook on future challenges and opportunities. Dr. Jeremy Chih-Cheng Chang, Ph.D., CEO and Director of Economic Security Research of Research Institute for Democracy, Society and Emerging Technology (DSET) focused on the significance of Taiwan, as well as its collaboration with Europe, in the global semiconductor supply chain. Mr. Marco Mezger & COO of Neumonda, used his expertise on storage and semiconductors to round out the presentations, speaking on the topic of the semiconductor memory market, supply chain status, and global dynamics surrounding AI.
