🚦 Our German Road Safety Event is less than two weeks away! 🚗 Let's dive into some fascinating traffic trivia while we wait. Check out our slideshow to learn more. Ever heard of the "Ampelmännchen" (little traffic man)? These adorable little traffic light men originated in Germany 🇩🇪, specifically East Berlin in 1961. Endearingly called "Ampelmännchen," they have become iconic symbols of pedestrian safety. But did you know they've also influenced traffic systems across the globe? 🇹🇼 Taiwan took inspiration from Germany's Ampelmännchen and introduced its own version, the "little green man" (小綠人). Taipei City first implemented this system in 1999, evolving it into an animated figure indicating the time left to cross the road. Unlike the static Ampelmännchen, Taipei's little green man can move at different speeds, helping pedestrians adjust their pace to cross safely. From a female little traffic woman to same-sex couples holding hands, these little traffic light figures have become more than just signals. They are cultural icons fostering safety and inclusivity. Stay tuned for more fun facts as we gear up for our Road Safety Event. 🛣️ Supporting companies: Bosch Taiwan DEKRA DQS Volkswagen Group Taiwan Co. AGEP promotes "Safety while driving on Expressways" By utilizing social media platforms for road safety awareness campaigns, organizations and individuals can leverage the power of technology and connectivity to promote safer roads, reduce accidents, and save lives. Expressways are designed to facilitate fast and efficient travel, but they also come with inherent risks. The high speeds and heavy traffic demand our utmost attention and caution. Unfortunately, many accidents occur due to negligence, recklessness, and a lack of awareness of the potential dangers we face. Let us unite in our efforts to prioritize safety on expressways. Together, we can reverse the trend of accidents and create an environment where everyone can travel confidently and arrive at their destinations unharmed. #Expressways #traffic #rule #follow #trending #trendingnow #trendingreels #reels #roadsafety #roadtrip #happy #family #maharashtra #samruddhimahamarg #technology #travel #safety

“Shared e-scooters carry higher safety risks in cities with an underdeveloped bicycle infrastructure. In such environments, the risk of accidents with e-scooters increases as a result of crowded roads and limited space for micromobility'', says economist Johannes Kasinger. While most e-scooters are prohibited from public roads in the Netherlands, they have become indispensable in the urban landscape of other European countries, particularly in larger cities. However, their reputation remains unfavorable. Research conducted by economist Johannes Kasinger and his fellow researchers has revealed an average increase of 8.2% in the monthly number of reported accidents involving personal injuries, following the introduction of shared e-scooters. Here is a 1258 character post in a professional tone about safety while traveling: Traveling, whether for business or pleasure, exposes us to unfamiliar environments and unpredictable situations. While exploring new places can be exciting and educational, it's important we do so safely and responsibly. As with any activity, evaluating risks and taking reasonable precautions helps ensure a positive experience. Road travel especially requires ongoing attentiveness. Though driving conditions may differ from what one is used to at home, following basic defensive driving practices can significantly reduce hazards. This includes obeying posted speed limits, allowing extra travel time to avoid rushing, keeping a safe following distance behind other vehicles, and concentrating fully on the road instead of using mobile devices. Being well-rested also improves reaction time and decision making behind the wheel. For those using alternative modes of transportation - https://lnkd.in/gYSRFmgs

This week is National Work Zone Awareness Week! Large trucks are over represented in #workzone crashes, making up nearly one-third of fatal work zone crashes. With work zones presenting challenges on our roads -- like narrowed lanes, sudden stops, shifting traffic patterns, and uneven road surfaces -- it’s important we all understand how to navigate safely through these areas. Be aware of passenger vehicle drivers around you, who may not be aware of commercial vehicle driving challenges, including large blind spots and longer stopping distances. When approaching lane closures, move into the open lane as soon as possible – pay close attention to vehicles around you that could be in your blind spot. It’s critical that all road users approach work zones with caution and do their part to keep the road safe for everyone! #NWZAW #trucking #NationalWorkZoneAwarenessWeek #safety #safetyontheroad #roadwaysafety #safetyfirst #transportation

"Instead of committing its future to the automobile, as so many US cities did in that era, Helsinki kept its streetcars and embarked on a massive transit expansion. The city constructed the world’s northernmost subway, which opened in 1982. As of 2016, roughly a quarter of urban trips in Finland occur on foot, over 9% by transit, and 7.5% by bike. (In the Helsinki metropolitan area, which has a population about 1.3 million, those numbers are even higher.) One in seven Finns live in rural areas, roughly equivalent to the US share. "The Finnish transportation system is as impressive for its safety as it is for its multimodality. Only 219 people died on Finnish roads in 2021, or four per 100,000 residents — just one-third the US rate. And Finland’s roadways are growing steadily safer. Fatalities plunged 50% between 2001 and 2019, when Helsinki made international news for going an entire year without a single pedestrian or cyclist fatality. (Last year there were two, down from 22 in 1990.) Like its neighbors Norway and Sweden, birthplace of the Vision Zero traffic safety movement, Finland’s roads today are safer than they have been in decades — unlike so many of the US cities that have tried to adopt Vision Zero principles." #traffic

A couple of observations I want to share as a pedestrian in Brisbane: Traffic lights start off green, then immediately switch to blinking red, along with a timer counting down the seconds until the light switches to red. This has a profound psychological impact on me. I appreciate the safety aspect of the design and actually believe that the timer is a great addition for slower pedestrians or people with children to time their crossing. However, the blinking red lights leads to crossing the street becoming a stressful, hurried experience. It conveys a message of danger. Why not have a blinking green? I walk to my climbing gym once a week. The walk is 1.5 km from my home. There is not a single pedestrian (zebra) crossing on my route. You are forced to run/hurry across when you see a gap in traffic (might take a while). Unimaginable how that is meant to work for people in wheelchairs, with prams or limited mobility. Cars have the right of way when turning, meaning that pedestrians have to wait when attempting to cross a street ... Why not give priority to those exposed to the elements? As a recent migrant, there are so many low-hanging, quick wins to be implemented here. Small changes in mindset and low-cost modifications in infrastructure - be they psychological or physical - can have profound effects on how safe and comfortable we feel during #activemobility. I've always loved this iIllustration by Karl Jilg.

ROAD SAFETY | MANNERS PLEASE 👌🏻 Whether it’s the increasing pressures of modern life or a simple case of more people waking up on the wrong side of the bed, road rage has been on the increase in recent years in Australia. A 2021 survey revealed that more than 70 per cent of Australian drivers have had another driver shout, curse or make rude gestures at them, while another survey saw almost half of all respondents admitting to verbally abusive behaviour toward other road users. It’s clear that good road manners need to make a comeback, so here’s a simple refresher on how to make your commute a more friendly experience. 👇🏻 #etiquette #manners #roadsafety #qldroads #qldtransport #mainsroads #streetsmarts #safedriving #brisbane #mazda
