Taiwanese Engineer's Energy-Saving Project Saves Over NT$26 Million Annually with EUREM

07/08/2023

TAIPEI, Taiwan –In recent years, "sustainability" has been a highly concerned topic in various industries around the world, and also a key issue in the planning of new products by many German companies. With visions and goals set, many related projects have already been initiated and entered the practical execution stage. The question of how to balance "energy efficiency" and product quality in order to achieve the goals has become a daily task for Mr. Marcus Lu, a manager in the engineering department of a German company. As a professional with an energy background, he was surprised that the European Energy Manager Training Program (EUREM) helped him break through a bottleneck in an energy project, which became his EUREM graduation project and obtained the approval of the company. The project is expected to save 8 million kWh annually, and with an average electricity cost of 0.1 euros per kWh, it is expected to save 800,000 euros per year (equivalent to over 26 million New Taiwan dollars).

The project is mainly aimed at reducing process air consumption through channel design, and thus significantly reducing energy consumption," Marcus explained. Before joining EUREM, their team had already started to plan related projects. The focus at that time was on how to ensure "product quality" while considering energy management from the process to the operation. After joining EUREM and supplementing related energy knowledge, he finally achieved the balance between energy efficiency and product quality, which satisfied him completely. He emphasized that "due to the good results, the project has expanded its scope on the original basis, submitted it to the head office, and has been approved. Now, it is running smoothly and is expected to achieve greater results this year."

Since graduating from EUREM, Marcus has felt that the greatest benefit has been getting to know experts and users from different fields who care about energy issues. He describes it as having broadened his horizons. "This is not only the expansion of contacts, but also practical operations. Many pieces of information are not enough to be found on the internet but have to be judged by relevant experts and extended to establish systematic information." It also helps management and technical personnel to combine appropriate tools with actual work. In the past, if he had wanted to promote energy-related projects but did not know where to get resources, the integration of the course platform, especially the advice of professional "connections," has been very helpful to him.

In view of this, Marcus hopes that in the future, there will be more physical courses and interpersonal communication in EUREM. Combined with the easy-to-understand course design, he believes that it cannot only upgrade the knowledge of professionals but also meet the practical needs of energy-related practices for general management staff.
